In the dream, we are in the living room of the house, late at night. A flapping and crunching sound (creosote or charcoal) comes from the chimney.
“Bats!” my wife tells me, and I agree. I get a glass jar ready, and rattle the damper to dislodge the little critters. I open the damper, and three black shapes fall into the charcoal and ashes of the cold hearth. I can’t see them clearly, but I quickly scoop up the baby bats into the jar and cover the lid with my palm.

“Get me a jar lid!” I call to my wife, and she hurries to the kitchen to find one. I turn the jar upside down to get a better look at the bats, my palm still on the opening. The bats are on my palm now. I am a bit uncomfortable.

One of the bats lifts its head, on a too-long neck. It opens a too-large eye that looks like a cat’s eye, and looks at me sideways through the glass. I can see it following the lines of my body from my head, down my arm, and to the palm beneath it. Its head dips slowly down towards my palm. It opens a mouth full of curved, needle-like teeth. It tries to take a bite out of my palm, but cannot get a purchase. It keeps trying. The teeth feel very smooth against my palm. Or is it biting me already?

“Hurry up with the lid!” I yell, now beginning to panic.
“I can’t find any lids!” she yells back, rattling through the kitchen drawers.
“Any size lid!” I yell back, “Hurry!”
“There aren’t any jar lids in the kitchen! Somebody threw them all out! I’m going to look in the basement.”

I look around the dining room and find a lousy plastic lid, the wrong size with a crack in the side. I turn the jar back over and clap the lid on top when the bats tumble to the bottom. I throw a bit of wood on top of the bats. The other two bats are stirring now. My wife is still in the basement.

What will I do with the bats? They are all awake now, staring at me. Throw them into the back yard? They will just fly into the chimney again. Kill them? How?

Dream ends. About 30 seconds after I wake up, I realize that these were dragons, not bats. Ten minutes later, brushing my teeth, it occurs to me that if there were baby dragons in the chimney, there was probably at least one big dragon nearby. In my dream, my wife and I could not or did not realize that they were dragons.
Wow Ablelba, I got all panicked right there with ya. Although I think I would like the dragons on my side! Big Grin
Hmmm. I catch critters in a jar and tell myself they are bats, when they are really baby dragons--Which, if I can get past the denial about the baby dragons, implies that there are Big Dragons....
Dream suggests that there is a known problem which seems small. But I or we are actually in denial. It is a larger problem than it appears to be, and the problem we deny implies a very much larger problem that we have not yet encountered.
OK, got it, sort of. Why were there three dragons? Why not one, or four?
Background: BC Canada, where I live, is having serious problems with wildfires. There are two people in the workplace who dislike me for unknown reasons--but they don't like anyone except our bosses! I am (perennially) upset over US politics.
Analysis:
There is a bigger picture that we are not seeing related to problems we think we know about. Get past the denial. Find the big picture.
If you dream of them again, see if you can ask them what they're there for. Maybe you can enlist them as part of your team.

That would be ideal! Unlikely though, since in the dream, the little dragon tries to bite me. But he didn't. Or was he just brushing me gently with his teeth as if to say, "Let us out of here, or we will bite our way out?"

From a story dynamics point of view, it would be better to let the baby dragons go unharmed, so as not to get the house burnt down by the momma dragon. If they were really bats, it might be better to kill them.
But until I get over my denial of dragons (in the dream, I never did), I will be unable to come up with the correct response to the baby dragon problem (let them go), BECAUSE I am in denial about having a dragon problem in the first place...
I might (in the dream) kill them, believing them to be bats, and incur the wrath of the mother dragon when she finds out....
Good synopsis. Big Grin

Although I would like to point out, even though bats give me the heebies, they are good for eating mosquitoes. Here in Florida, that would be helpful.
Thanks for sharing your baby dragon dream. I like the we you thought about the dream too. Yes, interesting that you were in denial about the baby dragons and then knowledge that a Mother dragon must also be present.

If not nearby, well within responding range. The fact you didn't have a dragon come roaring through a wall or the roof indicates, at least to me, that the younglings weren't afraid nor did they feel in danger that they couldn't handle on their own. And if that one dragon wanted out, it would have got out and nothing you could have done would keep it in that jar. So the whole tooth thing feels like a message to you, in the sense it was letting you know you were in no danger from them, but it wanted your attention.

One thing I noted was the lid you found, wrong size and with a crack. Another way of looking at the lid might be that whatever solution is being used to "cover" the known problem is insufficient for the job. Put that with the fact that the critters were dragons, not bats, and it suggests that the known problem is not only not what it seems but it's way bigger, way more everything than we imagine.

As for why there were three, in my experience, when three of anything shows up, it's the universe's way of telling me to PAY ATTENTION!!! Big Grin

Something else that jumped out at me: The fact the younglings were in your chimney and you had to open the damper to let them into your space. An access point. A gate, of sorts. Portal? One that required you to activate so they could enter.

It will be interesting to see if the dream returns so you can find out more.

Oh-and "Denial of Dragons" sounds like a George R.R. Martin book title. Big Grin
Hmm, I think you are right about the tooth thing--

Three = PAY ATTENTION. Yikes! very likely.
