Beetle <Frog <Koi
#1
In this dream, I was in a hospital. I had become more ill and had to be taken in immediately. My family came to visit me, so I assumed that things much be much worse than I thought, because they hardly ever go out of their way to visit me. I have some favorite kimonos, and in the dream, I had them brought to me in the hospital and displayed by my bedside. I had two of my white ones and one baby blue one. Each featured lovely cranes and blossoming cherry trees, and I was able to calm myself and relax as I looked at them, but I was still in a lot of pain for some reason. I'm not entirely sure what was wrong with me.

My grandmother came to my bedside and I thought that she might have something to say to me, but instead, she asked me for one of the white kimonos. I was happy to let her have it. I would still have a white one (Which was my favorite) and a baby blue one. I was upset, however, that she took it and left without so much as saying goodbye. Out of everyone there, I felt like I needed her there most of all.

After she left, I was overwhelmed with pain and my vision of everyone would get blurry then clear up... until finally it all went blurry and then went black.

I woke up with all kinds of tubes and monitors attached to me. I felt woozy but wasn't in so much pain, so I figured someone had given me some medicine at some point. I looked over to see that my mother leaning on a bed across from me talking to a baby wrapped in a hospital blanket. I immediately knew that I had given birth while I was passed out. She was telling my baby that she was more beautiful than this person or that character. She had a huge smile on her face... and part of me thought this was very cute, and another part of me was annoyed with her considering that she hardly had a relationship with me and didn't care to. I thought it was odd that she would be so interested in my daughter, but I certainly wasn't going to say anything about it. I was hardly in a condition to argue and it seemed like I would need help with my daughter because I was very weak.

After a while, my mother left and I was left alone with my new baby girl. She was so cute with an adorable button nose and cute pointy chin. She had just a little bit of brown hair on her head. She looked so peaceful while she slept and while I looked at her, I completely forgot that I had been in any kind of pain. I didn't want to bother her, I felt like her birth had been traumatic and she needed to rest.

As I looked around the room, I found a large fish tank. Inside, I saw a nice sized koi. It's face was a bit weird somehow and it's whiskers were very large considering it's size... as I watched it, I noticed that there was a fake log at the bottom of the tank, and inside was a green frog. This frog... looked weird as well... it had a very large mouth. I was a little grossed out by it. I've had pet frogs before, but this one just looked so strange to me... it just didn't look right. And though it gave me the creeps, I just couldn't stop looking at it for some reason.

As I stood there looking at this frog and trying to decide how I felt about it, I felt a sting on my finger. I pulled up my hand to see a nasty-looking black beetle gnawing at it. Its jaws were going a hundred miles an hour and this really freaked me out. I quickly thumped it off into the fish tank and the frog came up and swallowed it whole. I checked my finger. It was a little pink where the beetle had been chewing at it, but no real damage had been done. I looked at that ugly frog again with a new-found appreciation. Maybe it was ugly... but now, it was so ugly it was kinda cute. It had, after all, eaten that nasty beetle...

I watched it squirm and settle in the tank next to the fake log after eating that bug. For a moment, I could feel emotions coming out of the frog and I could see thoughts come out of it, like little thought bubbles. The more I watched it, the more I loved it. And, of course, it would be after I had sort of bonded with the frog that the fish would notice it. The fish was a great deal bigger than the frog. Apparently, it had decided the frog was on the menu.

The koi fish sucked in the frog with its big mouth and I tapped on the glass as hard as I could hoping that it would somehow make the fish spit it back out. I was so upset now... but just as I was about to walk away feeling depressed, the fish spit the frog back out. The frog, when swallowed, had somehow puked up it's insides which looked like a bunch of hair-like tentacles. It was really nasty to look at, but clearly it had been effective. I wasn't sure if it had startled the fish into spitting it out or if it just tasted/felt nasty... but I didn't care. The frog was back!

The fish swam side to side in the tank... as if it were aggravated and pacing. Then, after a while, it attacked the frog a second time. The frog was not as energetic... probably due to having just eaten a big meal and fighting for it's life after being swallowed. This time, when the fish opened its mouth, it expelled a bunch of tentacle-like guts as well. Now, both of these creatures were fighting with their tentacles... but the koi clearly had the upper hand because it had more tentacles, they were longer, and the fish was at least 3x as big as the frog... I watched, horrified, as the koi's tentacles overtook the frogs and dragged it back into its mouth. This time, the frog would not be coming back.

My heart sank, and I slowly made my way back to my hospital bed and sat down before waking up.
