Meteor in mid-America?

I was floating in the stratosphere of the Earth, somewhere above the American midwest. I could see the dust tail of a meteor as it was coming thru the mesophere. As it came thru the stratosphere I could see that the meteor was fairly large. My "body" was then being pulled extremely fast toward where the impact would occur. I could see the tops of the trees, a small church spire attached to a white building, as i was coming up to the sign with the town name, my alarm clock went off, and I was "thrown back" to the present. Right before I became fully awake, I looked over my shoulder and I could see a small mushroom type cloud blossoming up. I wish I could have seen the town's name.
