Awake while asleep, playing with the storm outside

A rainstorm late at night woke me up sorta. That's not quite right, because I was still asleep but awake too. I remember seeing changing geometric patterns and that somehow they were related to the rain going on outside, which I was now aware of.

Without even really trying, I started varying the intensity of the rain. After a while I got bored and went back to sleep and the rain ended.
