Atlanta I-85 Fire Melts Bridge, Shuts Major US Travel Corridor
Friday, 31 Mar 2017 06:38 AM

A massive fire on I-85 in Atlanta fire caused a bridge to collapse, blocking a major highway both ways in a city already known for gridlock and shutting down a major U.S. transportation corridor.

However, officials said no one was hurt despite dramatic images of towering flames and plumes of smoke.

Firefighters noticed chunks of concrete falling from the bridge and got out of the way just minutes before it collapsed, Stafford said.

Look for a place of worship to be attacked or destroyed in some way.  Or perhaps a court ruling against a place of worship which will have major ramifications.

I live less than 2 miles from there. So crazy. I'd imagine it's going to be a lot more than weeks of intense traffic... which is already awful here. The location is about as awful for traffic as it gets. It is not only shutting down one of our main thoroughfares into a city with a whole lot of commuters from the suburbs, but it's also collapsed onto one of our most major surface street arteries and has that shirt down, too. Worried for my city and the economic impact (as well as the traffic). It took me 2 hours to go what normally takes 45 minutes today-- and I was driving at NON rush hour times. Yikes. On the plus side maybe this will finally get the voters from the suburbs to realize why we actually DO need public transit.
