Kate, thank you for the reply. Your inability to detach is very common, and there is no requirement to detach. If we think about it, dreams are much closer to who we are than what happens during waking hours. At least some portion of every dream constitutes our unconscious thoughts and emotions. By the way, some people have mastered the art of observing themselves, as if they can separate their physical shell from the awareness that their physical shell isn't really who they are. The real me is the awareness of these observations.
