Turns out surveillance video of Hitchbot was a prank on the MSM news community and went worldwide. See video above.
The lesson was not to trust everything in the news.

7/14 familiar relative robot mild
The robot was set to go about two weeks ago which would have been just after the 15th and the first time the word 'robot' showed up since the beginning of June. It was a familiar robot (has been in the news before) and a relative, in a way (mild), to those who had picked it up and transported it.
7/15 robot hate otherwise grow ate tracks bit cart
Watching the video, it was a ferocious [hate] attack where they knocked it off it's cart (seat) and destroyed it's leg (track).
7/31 glass robot responses/skydiving journal wrong  
The responses to the 'robot' decapitation were like 'walking on glass responses' because the robot had previously traveled across Canada (August 2014) and around parts of Europe successfully and without incident.
"Hitchhiking Robot Lasts Just Two Weeks in US Because Humans Are Terrible" is a wrong way of titling an article. Admittedly, some are or maybe it was intended sabotage. Nonetheless, the article was a form of "skydiving" out of the blue with insinuation.
