You know, maybe it's not far off at all. Think about it, lots of carrion on the beaches, the local eagles are gonna think they've got a feast laid out before them and get on with eating it. But in doing that, they may contract whatever killed the marine life and die too. That's not good!
They've been having continual whale corpses (among other critters) found all along the pacific norrthwest and Alaska coasts this month here's one example article: http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2...ff-mystery
It could be the toxic algae blooms, it could be fukushima radiation effects, it could be toxic underwater releases of nasty gasses/liquids due to volcanic/tectonic activity on the seafloor along the fault lines, or any number of things causing it all at once! Currently there is a really huge, and I mean HUGE toxic algae bloom that extends from alaska down to california, and that's killing all sorts of things!
