The demons with which I've had contact are capable of a range of emotions (usually anger or snarky humor). There are demons, however who are looking for experiences and/or possibly linking in with a human to be able to feel via the human's emotions. Caveat: Most of the demons I've come across are fairly low on the feeding chain. I have not had contact with what I call the big kahuna demons(And I am so good with that) so I can't speak as to how they are.
Boxes. I've been thinking about your comment that the boxes thing is important. What are boxes for? A variety of things, but in the context of the dream, boxes are used to move groups of items from Point A to B easily. Boxes are used to corral items for easy moving. Yet the people were moving items one at a time and the owner said that was the way it had to be. Why? And what if the idea of moving without boxes was a metaphor for gathering up people to move them somewhere else?
