I'm not saying it's certain, but the eruption of a large volcano could cause winter-like conditions in the summer, and can also cause it to "snow." Do you recall coughing or covering your face?
Anyway, the relevance of the link is that Yellowstone is showing an interesting, but not necessarily threatening, increasing in activity.
That's an interesting call. Although I don't remember anything but the bitter coldness, how quickly it came on, and the fact I was totally dressed for summer.
