I am on the same page as you with everything you said, it all fits and makes sense.
Snake ended attempt and cave accident MIGHT be connected to the train accident in Philly. The snake is the train, the attempt to get to NY was ended with the crash. Cave accident, if you look at pictures of the train with the back doors opened, it looks like a cave entry, just a metal one. Rocket roller class could also be referring to a train, which is a "rocket (kinda) which rolls on wheels. The pilot scenario you discussed could fit here. Maybe it will be for both a cruise ship and this accident. Hope not.
