Certainly not all addictions are chemically or even biologically based. Some may be behavioral, meaning the person might have learned the behavior from other people, or cognitive, meaning that the addiction originated from an erroneous belief about themselves (just a couple of examples.) Here's another example: the addiction may have originated from a sense of worthlessness, and if that is the case, then seek an existential or transpersonal counselor.
