Boating in NY Harbor area

I dreamt that the family and I went to NY for some sort of a vacation. It was going on lae afternoon and we were supposed to go out on the harbor in a small to mid-sized boat. It started beoming dark and we needed to get back because there weren't any shoreline lights to guide us back to docking. We were still on our way back in full darkness (when I woke up) and I was almost to a point of panic thinking that if we go the wrong direction, we'd be lost out to sea.
