WRITTEN BY Jim Pepper

Jim Pepper (1941 - 1992) was of Native American descent, from the Plains tribes of the Kaw and the Cree. He came from a family of "road men", the peyote priests of the Native American Church. He was also a jazz saxophonist, playing primarily tenor sax (but also soprano sax and flute), and as such he was one of the pioneers of fusion jazz, mixing rock, r&b, and jazz into a whole new sound. He played with the likes of Larry Coryell, Ornette Coleman, and Don Cherry. His playing was soulful, very much influenced by r&b, and his tone was incisive and penetrating. His style influenced later saxophonists like Jan Garbarek and David Sanborn. He died in 1992 of lymphoma.

In the mid '60s, encouraged by Coleman and Cherry, Pepper began experimenting with mixing Native American music and jazz, with interesting results. "Witchi Tai To" is a prime example of that blending, taking a peyote song he'd learned from his grandfather and putting it in a jazz setting. The song first turned up in 1969 on an album by the band he was playing with at the time, Everything Is Everything. But it's the 1971 version from his own solo album Pepper's Pow Wow that's the definitive version, starting with the peyote chant plain and unadorned, and slowly segueing into Pepper's beautiful, flowing sax line that sets the tone for the rest of the tune. In a way the song is anthemic, especially the parts based on that sax melody; you can imagine stadiums full of people singing that line with great power. Yet the song remains very simple in all it's elements. It's that simplicity and the spiritual intent behind the words, and the spiritual intent that fuels Pepper's performance, that gives the song it's power. The Kaw words are untranslatable now - Pepper said his grandfather never did tell him what they meant in English - but he sings them anyway, and adds English lyrics which emphasize the roots in the peyote ritual, especially speaking of the Water Spirit, who carries the visions brought by the peyote.

Today’s Action: Sensitive Pisces Moon holds hands briefly with the magical ruler of Pisces…none other than Neptune. It’s a direct connection to the world of fantasy, imagination, creativity, inspiration, intuition, clairvoyance, insight! To make matters even more pronounced, the fantasy moon sextiles retrograde Pluto in Capricorn which wants to shut down your goals and ambitions. Finally, an opposition between moon and Venus in Virgo making discernment incrementally more difficult. Meanwhile the DreamBot is honing in on flying and fantasy and one of the linguistics sets suggests that this fantasy life is “basically experienced.” There are so many beautiful gifts in store for this day, but the risk is to get completely lost in imagination and fantasy. Our meditation today will be focused on discernment so that you can let the mind free to explore and to build more trust in your inner knowing. Logic and reason are important, but when divergent thinking is prominent, it will be the inner knowing which keeps you out of trouble because your logic and reason centers of the human brain are momentarily degraded. Discernment is key.

I was at a hospital with friend. We both were discussing having some type of outpatient procedure there. She had just had it. After speaking for a few moments, she left. A relative of mine who is a clergyman was also there. My doctor examined me and we decided we could have the minor operation that day.
As I was waiting in the pre op room, John Mc Cain walked in. He looked like recent images taken of him, and walked with a bit of limp and a little bent to one side. He was shorter than I would have expected him to be by a couple inches. I was surprised to see him.
He was alone, We greeted each other and exchanged some pleasantries. He wish me luck. I got up to speak to him, it was important for me to do so. I told him I had voted for him, not always but often over the years. It was important for me to thank him for everything he had done for his country, especially right now. He accepted my words graciously and with humility and thanked me. As he turned and began to walk away I called back "wait" and ran over to him and gave him a big hug. I told him he was loved and I began to cry, He got teary-eyed as well. "Love" changed the feeling in the room. It swept between us, broke down any formal barriers and flowed and into the room. After a moment or so he left the room. I noticed my clergyman relative did as well. I heard muffled voices nextdoor and realized they were having a spiritual chat together.
I shortly woke up afterward.

Thoughts.
John McCain has been my senator for nearly 25 years. I have never met him. Like the dream, I have often voted for him, but not always. I have a deep respect for him, his courage and his maverick personality. I have not liked all of his political choices over the years but I truly respect him. I believe he has been a shinning light over the years and especially now. I believe the goodbye, the shared expression of love and the discussion with a clergyman are all indications that McCain my be "going home" in the near future. I would also like to take note of the powerful feeling I felt while not just expressing my gratitude for McCain, but expressing my love for him. I truly felt the power and transformation of love.
When I awoke, I actually thought we might have met up with each other in dreamtime. Who knows?
I also checked immediately to make sure he had not passed away during the night.
I am not planning on having any surgery.

May John McCain feel loved and care for. May he feel God's grace.
